Day 33 Off to New York 10-16-14

We had a long list of options for today involving heading over to Manhattan. The vast American Museum of Natural History was closest to Central Park so we started there. It looked so good when we got inside that we got "senior" tickets for Pterosaurs, Dark Universe, Spiders Alive, and Great White Sharks IMAX and squeezed them all in with some serious navigation challenges in the huge maze like building. With the crowds and student groups in for a special conservation biology conference and the diverse exhibits across 5 floors we worked hard and were very pleased with our accomplishments, along with what we saw and learned. The mix of old and new techniques in the museum exhibits combined with much updated research held our interest all day.

There is much to learn about Pterosaurs as we found out

This one soared over my head

Good Halloween scenes too

Giant spiders too

This one was big enough to ride if you dared

Cool exhibit display

When we finished the shark movie it was time to try more complex navigation and get to the Shalom Japan fusion Resturant in Brooklyn and meet nephew Woody who has lived in NYC for years. We haven't seen him since his early teens although Laurie worked with him professionally on a video project several years ago. This was our first chance to re-connect. We were all a little nervous at first but had a fun visit with an unusual And pricy meal while catching up on Woody's career situation and getting his tips for things to do with our remaining time.

We found a direct bus route and got home quickly and efficiently once we figured out how to get our Metro cards into the bus slot correctly. We had another great day with lots to process and a little more understanding of what it is like to live in this lively city.
