We woke up slowly and enjoyed the apartment we are staying in. It's decorated with African prints, rugs, and wooden art and gives me the feeling of being in a small tropical hotel or home. The warm breeze blowing in adds to that effect. I made some coffee and we enjoyed the feta and baguette left for us by our host while we studied routes and options for the day. We dressed and packed for afternoon rain and headed off on foot.

We are moving a bit slower now after over a month of riding the rails but we still have plenty of interest and desire to do things while we are here. We walked to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and wandered those large grounds. We enjoyed all the green space and beautiful conditions. There are lots of good programs and projects going on so I signed up to get their newsletter. We had lunch at their small cafe which is going through renovations. A large group of teenage students were there and added noise and high energy to the humid greenhouses. We wandered back slowly and found some great art about Hurricane Sandy. We were limited to a few warm sprinkles but were ready for more rain just in case.

After a short break we headed to the adjacent Brooklyn Museum which was included in our ticket package. We joined a tour which was well worth the time and free price. Afterwards we stayed for several hours and only saw a small part of the vast collection. Connecting Brooklyn, Judy Chicago, and Killer Heels were great exhibits and a full day could be spent in this museum.
A big collection of Brooklyn artists

One very cool bike stored in the museum archives
We enjoyed a free art tour
We wanted to try Junior's famous cheesecake so we took the subway and walked a short distance to find it at dusk as a few more sprinkles fell. Our home cooked dinners were large and tasty but we left room for the slab of classic cheesecake by taking home most of pastrami sandwiches. We easily navigated back on the subway and our walk home and relaxed for our coming Manhattan adventure. The Giants kept me up past midnight with their winning rally but I can't complain.
Laurie approved of Junior's classic cheesecake!
