Day 23 Freeport = LL Bean 10-6-14

Today we set out to visit Freeport, the home of LL Bean or at least his flagship. An Amtrak train, the Downeaster, took us there for about $5 including a senior discount. This is the same train we will take in the other direction to Boston soon. It's a short train trip and we walked the mile and a half to get to the station rather than wait for a bus.

I visited the home of the champion Sea Dogs

At least trust "this" wildlife biologist!

Luckily it was a Monday as the downtown of Freeport is a vast collection of outlet stores. We were there to check it all out and try some gift shopping while in search of the perfect lobster roll too. We picked a smaller place that claimed to have the best lobster and clam chowder. We will have to try other places and lobster rolls before we know that for sure.

We enjoyed the historical museum with an exhibit on the role transportation has played on Freeport. Very creative exhibit including using the floor as a map.

Laurie tried to shop but wasn't able to get into the spirit based on our meager results compared to all the bags others carried. I did enjoy the LL Bean campus somewhat with various theme stores. They claim to be open 24/7 365 days a year but I'll have to take their word on that. Laurie enjoyed several phone calls to fill the time between done shopping and train return.

It was a little difficult to "bear" all that shopping!

We caught the train back and came in just in time to run to the bus stop only to find we had the time wrong and would need to wait a little. It was dusk under a full moon and we had correct change and a shelter to wait in. We did get off at the wrong stop and wandered in the dark under dressed for the temperature and hungry. For some reason most places were full and jumping with energy. We had a great Japanese dinner and went home full and warm. Now if only the Giants had won...
